On the Job with C: Whitewash & Limewash Brick

You may remember my post back in August on painted brick.  It has become a very popular option with my clients.  And while you can paint your exterior just about any color, with brick there is no going back once you’ve done it.  Before painting, consider another technique called whitewash or limewash.  This can be achieved by using a thinner, more translucent mixtures that allows the natural color of the brick to show through.  Over time, it will provide a beautiful patina that will age nicely with the outdoor elements and can last up to 100 years.  Plus, it’s lower maintenance than straight paint which makes the commitment a little less stressful.  Here’s some inspiration….
