On the Job with C: Aerin Lighting

As we were about to step foot into Taylor’s on Ten, I reminded my client that she might be taken away by the lighting that looked so very close to jewelry.  A few minutes later, Aerin Lauder’s lighting line had her at hello.  Lauder, having recently completed a house in Aspen and a new book release, has now brought her style to chandeliers, table lamps and sconces.  The options will take your breath away.  Here’s a look at some of my favorites….

Paint Ponder: Chappell Green

I have always loved the feel of Farrow & Ball paints.  They have a soft but historical feel, while being very purposeful and updated for every room.  “You want to feel that you’re part of a tradition but not stuck in the past”, Kurek Jones told House Beautiful about his 19th century row house he covered in Chappell Green.  I love it.

Friday Happy Hour: Mrs. Howard’s Room by Room

I love design books.  They make for some great inspiration and let’s not forget how stunning they can look on a coffee table.  I have lots of favorites: Barbara Barry’s Around Beauty, Annie Kelley’s Rooms to Inspire, Aerin Lauder’s Beauty at Home and Jan Showers Glamorous Rooms and the list goes on.  What I’m really looking forward to Phoebe Howard‘s book, Mrs. Howard, Room by Room (available by pre-release by Amazon here or B&N here) that features her classic style.  Here’s a peek….

On the Job with C: Swivel Chairs

Rarely am I’m looking for the same thing for two different clients, but this summer I’ve been busy evaluating swivel chairs.  Both clients are in need to chairs that are more functional and will allow for a variety of seating options.  The swivel chair is perfect for this.  It allows guest to get in and out easily, but also allows one to capture a view of the pool, while later turning back for movie watching.  Add an ottoman in front if when you need one it and the swivel slowly becomes your new favorite place to sit.

Here are some great rooms that feature swivels….

Paint Ponder: Pink Ground

“I used this pink in my first apartment in New York.  There was something about the combination of this color and the afternoon light pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows that was so calming,” remembers designer Ashley Whittaker of Farrow & Ball’s Pink Ground in House Beautiful, “You might think a pink apartment would scream ‘girly girl,’ but the gray undertones make it more sophisticated and grown-up.”  I love it.

Friday Happy Hour: Santa Barbara

Happy Friday!  I’m enjoying time with my fab hubby in beautiful Santa Barbara.  We are enjoying great restaurants, amazing drives and some spectacular wine.  The houses here are quite stunning as well.  I was hoping to run into Rob Lowe and be invited to happy hour here

Portfolio Peek: Great Room

Today we will take a look at the lakehouse great room.  We started with the clients leather sectional and added some textural elements.  A Currey rainforest chandelier took center stage, along with custom wood end tables and fun shell lamps.  We love the high ceilings with exposed beams….

On the Job with C: Tom Filicia at Kravet

After hitting the DMC and loving some items at Taylor’s on Ten, Currey & Company and J. Mackie, my fav Frisco friend/client and I headed to the Design District.  There too we were inspired at Baker, Schumacher and several other great places and then we arrived at Kravet.  We loved Kravet because we have so many options to customize nearly everything and Kevin is so super helpful.  It was slam dunk.  My friend adored the Tom Filicia collection, especially the Windsor Buffet in water.  Here’s a look….
