Portfolio Peek: Game Room

Just off the lakehouse pool, the game room was not only meant for fun and games, but wet swim suits and towels too.  We introduced durable concrete floors, RH metal chairs and an indoor/outdoor wave rugs.  We love the Currey & Company branch bench in the entry too….

Paint Ponder: In the Midnight Hour

Designer Bruce Shostak grabbed our attention with his dramatic blue dining room in Benjamin Moore’s In the Midnight Hour BM- 1666.  He painted everything in this high-gloss blue stating in House Beautiful, “With a single color, you get sculptural richness.  In sunlight, the gloss finish is surpassingly cheerful, perfect for ball-filled birthday parties.  By night, it’s a handsome backdrop for grown-up dinners”.  We can’t agree more….

Friday Happy Hour: Charleston Historic

There is something about southern architecture that captures my heart.  Leave it to Traditional Home to bring some of Charleston’s best to life in this month’s issue.  I just love this one built for socialite Cornelia “Daisy” Breaux Simonds.  “The flamboyant New Orleans beauty married Charleston bank president Andrew Simonds Jr. in 1885, and about 10 years later the couple built a magnificent home on South Battery with panoramic views of the harbor.”  It was recently redone and is just so lovely….

On the Job with C: Silk Taffeta

There are many luxurious items in the world of design, but one of my favorite “go for it” recommendations is a silk taffeta.  It always drapes effortlessly and has the beauty of a wedding gown. Use it on drapery, a canopy, pillows or dare I saw as a wall covering.  Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Yes. Just ask a few of my clients who coddled them with great care at our reveal.   I love having them custom made, but if that’s not an option, Neiman Marcus has some great ones (love the Hampton) and Drape Style and Half Price drapes are options too.  Indulge….

Paint Ponder: Seaweed

Whether you use it as a flat paint or take it up to a luscious lacquer, Benjamin Moore’s Seaweed will take your room from boring to statement in seconds.  Try it with some gray paint (think HC-82 Bennington gray) or pair it with some warm gold accent pieces and its absolutely stunning….

Friday Happy Hour: Miles Redd + Schumacher

Perhaps you heard the news by now that New York designer Miles Redd recently introduced a new fabric line at Schumacher.  The talented Redd, who is always known for his high gloss punch of colors, delivers a line that might rally Mary McDonald’s previous one.  Together he creatively mixes birds and peacocks with cubist geometric patterns and deconstructed stripes. And let’s not forget the soft watercolor…

Portfolio Peek: Kids Rooms

Lakehouse bunks beds make for the best time with our BFFs, so we stacked them across from one another in both the boys and girls bedrooms.  Our boys bath took a tiny nautical theme with fun rope mirrors and the girls adored the fun chandelier from none other than IKEA….

On the Job with C: Ottomans under a Console

“Well, sometimes I need a lot of seating.”  That’s a comment a get quite a bit from clients who are social butterflies often hosting their kids youth groups, a bookclub or small group.  What to do?  Consider putting stools or ottomans underneath a console.  The console can be set against a wall or even behind a sofa.   It keeps the room from being crowded with furniture, while still providing extra seating.   So say goodbye to those “card table chairs” and just pull out a stool instead…

Paint Ponder: Naples Blue

“Blue has so much depth.  With red you can quickly get too orange or pink, but with blue you can turn the dial 45 times and it will still be blue, ” states designer Palmer Weiss love for this hue.  Recently she pushed Benjamin Moore 2057-30 Naples Blue to an absolutely stunning level in client family room captured by House Beautiful.  Here are a few others that took on the color…
