Friday Happy Hour: Blue and white home

I’m lovin’ this blue and white house created by designer Lee Ann Thornton.  Featured in House Beautiful, this classic Greenwich, CT house has some amazing architectural details as well as some great hints of Coastal perfection.  And let’s not forget, my fav color, blue…

Paint Ponder: Tudor Brown

“I use a lot of brown because everything goes with it.”, states Dan Carithers in House Beautiful about Benjamin’s Moore Tudor Brown.  “This is like melted chocolate — sensuous, smooth, velvety. I don’t think of it as dark, but rich. It anchors a room and gives you a luxurious feeling. I’ve used it lots in libraries, with white trim. All the beige, camel, and parchment colors look handsome with it.”  I’m loving it.

Paint Ponder: Stem Green

With kids heading back to school, it might be a good time to for a kids makeover.  A fun color to try?  Benjamin Moore’s Stem Green 2029-40.  It works great in a bedroom, playroom or even a bath.  Fresh, fun and clean.  Where are you going to try it?

Paint Ponder: Donald Kaufman White

The perfect white?  Designer Mariette Himes Gomez swears by Donald Kaufman’s DKC-5 in House Beautiful, “You know what my color is – white.  And it’s always Donald Kaufman #5.  I think there’s every color in that white.  It catches light and shadow and does a little magic thing around the edges of paneling.  My whole apartment is #5, from top to bottom, front to back.  It’s like Chanel No. 5.  You always feel good in it”.

Paint Ponder: Overcast

I am often selecting paint color.  One of the simplest colors is often the most difficult – cream.  Most often used for trim, white/ivory/cream is making a comeback for wall color.  Homeowners are looking for the clean, elegant look without a ton of color.  One of my favorite cream colors is by Benjamin Moore OC-43 called “Overcast“.  It looks cream with a slight touch of warm gray.  Very serene yet sophisticated.

Here are some rooms that have tried it on:

Paint Ponder: Revere Pewter

I’ve picked out a lot of paint.  Gray is everyone’s new favorite right now and I’ve found lots of great ones.  One of my new favorites is Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter and I promise this one will make you happy.   It works in a living room, bedroom, bathroom – or frankly anywhere.

As designer Susan Ferrier stated in this month’s House Beautiful, “I swear, it looks good everywhere”.  I’m with you Susan, truly with you.
